Protect your masonry from the silent forces of thermal movement. Our Pre-greased Galvanised Slip Joint is the technical solution for managing the inevitable expansion and contraction between differing building materials. By creating a low-friction separation layer at the junctions of brickwork and concrete, this joint allows materials to move independently.

Specifications

Every unit is sold in standard 3-metre lengths and comes pre-taped to ensure the grease remains contained and the sheets aligned during handling and placement on-site.

Width Configuration Transport
110mm Standard Flat Can be rolled for easy transport
140mm Standard Flat Can be rolled for easy transport
230mm Standard Flat Can be rolled for easy transport
270mm V-Folded Cavity Bridge Rigid (Cannot be rolled)
270mm Standard Flat Can be rolled for easy transport

Note: The 270mm variant features a specialised “Vee” fold designed to bridge cavities, providing structural movement protection while maintaining the integrity of the wall cavity.

Why Choose Our Pre-greased Slip Joint?

  • Crack Prevention: Acts as a mechanical “buffer” that absorbs the stress caused by differing expansion rates between concrete slabs and brick walls.
  • Ready-to-Install: Pre-greased and taped together, these joints eliminate the mess and inconsistency of manual greasing on-site.
  • Corrosion Resistant: The galvanised sheeting is corrosion resistant, ensuring the slip mechanism doesn’t seize over time due to rust.
  • Australian Standard Protection: Since 1957, Vincent Buda & Company has provided the critical hardware that keeps Australian masonry compliant and crack-free.

Primary Applications

  • Brick-to-Concrete Junctions: Essential where face brick meets a concrete slab or beam.
  • Commercial Masonry: High-performance movement control for large-scale retail and office walls.
  • Cavity Wall Construction: The 270mm V-fold is perfect for spanning internal and external skins.
  • Structural Renovations: Retrofitting movement joints during major home extensions.

To allow for thermal expansion. Both the brickwork and concrete slab expand and contract throughout the day. Without a slip joint, the concrete slab bonds to the brickwork and doesnt allow for expansion and contraction. The slip joint creates seperation that allows movement for both the brickwork and concrete slab, ultimately preventing cracks and structural failure.
Not exactly, though they work together. An expansion joint (like Jointex) manages compression, whereas a slip joint manages the horizontal movement between two different structural elements.
Lay the joint flat on the supporting masonry before the pour. Ensure the surface is clean and level; the concrete is then poured directly over the slip joint.
Yes, we stock them for a variety of wall popular wall widths, including 110mm, 230mm and 270mm walls. Vincent Buda and Company ensures you have the right fit for standard Australian brickwork, available for same-day or next-day delivery within the Sydney Metro.
The V groove faces upward (toward the sky). This ensures any water that enters the junction or cavity does not track towards the building’s internal skin.
